PREVENTION OF PARENT TO CHILD TRANSMISSION OF HIV/AIDS

Introduction

The PPTCT (Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS) Project aids the Virudhunagar District by providing support to HIV positive pregnant women. This includes preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS to their unborn child. The following six blocks in the district of Virudhunagar are covered by the PPTCT Project.

Goals

	Prevention of HIV among young people
	Prevention of unwanted pregnancies in general, and, especially among positive women or women whose husbands are positive
	Prevention of transmission of HIV infection from mother to her infant
	Care and Support for HIV affected mother-baby/couple

Objectives:

	Scaling up of preventive interventions among the women of child baring age and their families by providing a package of primary prevention, family planning, Volunteer Counselling and Testing(VCT), Anti-retroviral prophylaxis and counselling on infant feeding
	Providing a comprehensive HIV, AIDS care package including ART treatment for HIV infected mothers, their partners and infants
	To enhance access to ART through PP
